Nice game! I love the atmosphere!
I gave it four stars, but please find a fix soon for the freezing glitch when the character dies... I died once, and I was sent back to a checkpoint, with a dialog box saying that I "would fail like the others"... but then, I died another time and the game froze, like other users said. I really like it, please find a fix soon, because at the current state it's frustrating.

GumpyFunction responds:

I have fixed the bug I think. I removed gamepad support - might be some wires getting crossed with the controls there. Let me know if there are anymore problems.

It's a very basic side-scrolling shooter.
It's pretty easy (I only got hit once, in only one level), and it gets boring pretty fast: 36 levels, and only 4 enemy types. In the boss levels, the boss is always the same. Three weapons, of which only one is worth buying and upgrading (the machine gun). I got to the end only to see if there was something else, but no.
More enemy types, more weapons, different bosses and maybe obstacles (like barbed wire, holes, sandbags, etc.) would really improve the experience. Changing the background every now and then would help, too.
Also: at the beginning, the story says we're in 4000 AD. What's the point in setting this into the far far future, if weapons, armors and vehicles are the same as today?

Amazing work! It's a shame that it's just a demo... it deserves to be a full game!
I hope you take this project in your hands again!

One of my favourite games on NG. There are different interpretation, imho:

1) People tend to have a black and white view of reality. That means they tend to differentiate between good/evil, right/wrong, etc., and do not consider that reality isn't black and white, but colored (or, to stay in the monochrome setting, there are different shades of gray). Keeping this into consideration allows you to have a better understanding of what's going on, but it's difficult: living with "absolutes" is far more simple. So, people who try to explain that reality is not that simple are often ignored. When the character is black or white people still listen to it; but when he goes gray (understanding the complexity of reality and refusing to simplify it as before), people start to ignore it.

2) The main character changes idea multiple times during the game, and convinces others though dialogue. However, people are more difficult to convince after every "idea-change": it's like they remember the protagonist, and don't understand why it changed its mind. At the end, they stop listening the main character: it has changed idea too many times, and people consider it unreliable. They don't trust it anymore, for it has changed its mind too many times. How will they know that it won't change its mind again, continuing to send them back and forth? In this interpretation, the gray color doesn't represent a "gray area" of thinking, but the character losing its ability to communuicate with others.

These two interpretations are alternatives.

Anyway, great game!!

A timeless classic.
Today it's maybe the 10th time I've played this game. And I'll probably play it again in the future.
Why? Because it's one of the best defense games on Newgrounds. And when I say defense, I mean the "stand your ground - upgrade your weapons - wreak havoc on the incoming hordes" genre. Even today, this game (and its sequels) still stands out.
Balanced difficulty, weapon shop (with related upgrades), upgrades for the house and other perks who indirectly damage the enemy, a lot of levels, and a hilarious setting. I hope the author still visits NG, so he can take a look at my big THANK YOU for giving us one of the greatest games in the NG database.
If you like the defense game genre, try this. It will be worth your time.

Nice game! I'd love to see its concept expanded. Maybe in a longer game, with sound effects, a background story, etc.
Very good job!

(p.s.: note for the upgrade maniacs: resources don't respawn during a level. Before upgrading, check if you'll have enough resources to finish the level afterwards. A couple of time I rushed to upgrade, and ended up failing the level for not having enough resources left.)

Nice little game! I loved it!
P.s.: did you take inspiration from the arcade game "Crossbow"? It has a similar concept (protecting semi-defenseless heroes), and the sprite of character you protect is very similar, in style, to the hero of your game!

VascoF responds:

Glad you liked it! I did not take inspiration from "Crossbow", I didn't know about that game. But that is interesting, from screenshots, the character does seem similar, haha :) Thanks.

Awesome game, I love it! I've played it many times since its release!
However, as another user stated in a previous review, there is now an annoying bug: every time I complete a level, if I click "next level" or "return to map" I get a black screen, and I have to refresh the page to continue playing (my progress is saved, though).
Please fix this, it's very annoying.

If you thought that Lunalander was hard, try this.
Nice game, good concept! I liked it!
Extremely difficult (but I suppose it's meant to be like this)!

colburt187 responds:

Glad you liked it, yeah its supposed to be tricky but it was for a game jam so didn't really get much time to balance it.

Very nice game! I love the style, and the concept, too! (the contrast between very minimal graphics and elaborate drawings).
I admit, to find the True Ending I had to resort to a walkthrough... shame to me, but I didn't know where to bash my head!
In one of the letters you wrote one of your personal interpretations of the meaning of the game.
This game has made me think - I've made an interpretation of it, too, but I don't want to write it here, it would be a huge spoiler to new players. I think I'll send it to you via mp, let me know what you think about it!
Btw, great game! Congratulations!!

Emptygoddess responds:

Congratulations
